Twenty-six seconds...

It may not seem like much time, but for some it may as well be a lifetime. Across America, lives are being drastically changed in those few, precious, moments. Every 26 seconds in America, a teenager drops out of a public high school. Last year, 1.1 million youngsters quit school. The decision to dropout has a devastating, far reaching impact on the youngster, the youngster’s family, and the community at large.

The R. L. Hampton Group, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering and inspiring the minds of young America, is set to attack the problem. The Hampton Group’s ‘Project 26 USA’ is an initiative to reduce America’s high school dropout rate. A high school diploma is at the very foundation of a successful life. Without it, one’s ability to earn a living is dramatically curtailed.

• A high school dropout’s earning power is far less than a high school graduate. A high school graduate earns $9,000 more per year than a high school dropout.

• A person without a diploma has a far more difficult time finding employment. Unemployment rates have been cited as high at 30.8 percent for high school dropouts.

• Exactly 85 percent of the men and women who entered America's penal systems failed to earn their high school diploma.

The Hampton Group has assembled a team of inspirational speakers from the world of sports, and beyond, who will share their triumphs, disappointments, and life lessons with students. We believe that regardless of a child’s current station in life, the potential to be a productive citizen lie within. We are confident these inspirational messages and life stories are so uplifting and moving that it will began to change the course of a student’s life in a day.
